Grok to PDF, Word or Markdown, in one click

A Grok conversation is a page, not a document

On grok.com you can share a conversation as a link, and that is about it. When someone wants “that answer as a file”, you print the page, and printing a chat app is never good: sidebar, composer, dark background, the transcript in its own scrolling area. On Grok there is a second problem that is easy to miss. The page does not lay the messages out one after another the way a document would. Each message is placed at a vertical position on the screen, and the order in which they appear in the page code has nothing to do with the order in which they were sent. Anything that simply reads the page from top to bottom, including some export tools, can hand you a transcript with the replies shuffled.

AI to PDF reads that position for every message, sorts the conversation by it, and rebuilds the result as a document. Then Chrome saves it as a PDF, locally. Grok to PDF becomes one click, and Grok to Word or Grok to Markdown is the same click with a different choice.

Built for the way Grok answers

• Messages in the right order. First prompt first, last reply last, regardless of how the page arranged them. Each turn is labelled You or Assistant, with a page break between messages.
• Thinking is left out. The collapsed “Worked for 3s” block above a reply is scratch work. It is excluded on purpose, so the document is the length of what Grok actually said.
• Code blocks keep their language. Grok labels every block (Python, TypeScript, SQL). The label is kept, the Collapse and Copy controls are stripped, and the code is set in a monospace font with ligatures off, one line per source line.
• Inline code stays code. Grok styles inline snippets as ordinary text with a monospace look rather than real code. The extension recognises them and exports them as code, so print() in a sentence still reads as print() in the PDF and the Markdown.
• Tables keep their columns. The tables Grok produces come out as tables, laid out in full.
• Headings, lists, quotes and links survive. The structure of the answer becomes real document structure, and the document takes the chat title Grok shows in the tab.

It works on your own chats (grok.com/c/… and /chat/…) and on share links (/share/…), so a conversation someone shared with you can be exported the same way as your own. Only grok.com is supported; if you use Grok somewhere else, open the conversation on grok.com first.

Three options, nothing else

PDF, Word or Markdown, and All messages / Last reply / Pick. “Last reply” is the fast way to hand someone Grok’s final answer without the rounds that led to it. “Pick” puts a checkbox above every message. Light or dark document theme for the PDF (the Word file is always light), and that is the entire interface.

The Word export gives you an editable .docx with the same layout as the PDF: speaker blocks, code, tables. The Markdown export gives you the conversation as GitHub-flavoured Markdown with fenced code blocks and pipe tables, which is what you want for Obsidian, a wiki or a pull request description. Markdown is free and unlimited.

One Grok exporter, and it also does ChatGPT

Few people use only Grok. AI to PDF is one extension for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and Grok: it recognises the site from the URL, there is no “pick your AI” step, and a Grok conversation exported today looks like the ChatGPT conversation you exported yesterday: same fonts, same speaker blocks, same footer. If you file conversations by project rather than by chatbot, that consistency is the point.

Local by design

Some exporters build their PDFs on the developer’s server, which means the conversation is uploaded, converted and sent back. AI to PDF has no endpoint that accepts conversation content. The document is rendered inside your browser and saved by Chrome; the only request the extension makes is a licence and quota check carrying an anonymous install ID and a daily export count. What is not covered yet

We only list what we have verified on the live site. Headings, lists, bold and italic, inline code, code blocks with their language, tables, quotes, links, the thinking block left out and the message order are tested on grok.com. Images you uploaded or Grok generated, conversations run in Think or DeepSearch mode, and very long chats where the page may unload older messages have not been tested yet; if a conversation leans on those, open the export and check it before you send it on. When they are verified they will appear in the changelog.
