Open a conversation on one of the supported sites, click the AI to PDF icon to open the side panel, choose PDF or Markdown and which messages, then press Export. A PDF opens print-ready with “Save as PDF” already selected; a Markdown file downloads immediately.

Google Chrome and other Chromium browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store: Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Arc. Firefox and Safari are not supported at the moment.

A title block with the conversation name, source site and date; every message with a You or assistant label; headings, lists, blockquotes, bold and inline code; code blocks with their language label; tables with their columns; images you uploaded and images the AI generated; page numbers. Buttons, menus, screen-reader labels and reasoning blocks are left out.

GitHub-flavoured Markdown: the title as an H1, a line with the source and date, then an H2 per message naming the speaker. Code blocks are fenced with the language, tables are pipe tables. It opens correctly in Obsidian, GitHub, VS Code and Notion imports.

No. Claude’s extended thinking, DeepSeek’s DeepThink and Gemini’s thoughts are reasoning scratch work and are excluded on purpose. Only the visible answers are exported.

Yes. ChatGPT, Claude and DeepSeek unload older messages from the page as you scroll. Before rendering, the extension scrolls through the transcript and collects every message, so the export is complete. Very long chats take a few seconds longer.

Yes, for the PDF. Light is ink-friendly for paper; dark keeps a full-bleed dark background on every page, which looks right on screen. Markdown has no theme.

Because Chrome’s print engine is the best PDF renderer on your machine and it runs locally. The extension prepares the document and opens the dialog with “Save as PDF” selected; you only pick a folder. Tip: if you see a URL or date printed in the page margins, untick “Headers and footers” in More settings once and Chrome remembers it.

3 PDF exports a day, unlimited Markdown exports, all four AI sites, all three message options and both themes. Free PDFs end with one small line, “Exported with AI to PDF · aitopdf.app”. The counter resets at midnight.

No. The document is built inside your browser from the page you have open. Our server receives an anonymous install ID and, for free-plan PDFs, a daily export count; that is how the limit and PRO licences work. It never receives conversation text or images.

It depends on what the extension does with your text. Several popular exporters build the PDF on their own servers, which means your conversation is uploaded. AI to PDF has no such server; check our privacy policy and, for any extension, read the permissions and the privacy tab on the store listing before installing.

Access to the four supported chat sites, storage for your settings and export history, and the side panel. It cannot read other tabs, your browsing history or your passwords.

No. Claude has no per-conversation export; its Settings → Privacy → Export data emails you all conversations as JSON, with a link that expires in 24 hours. AI to PDF exports the one conversation you have open, as PDF or Markdown.

No. ChatGPT’s account export is a ZIP with an HTML file and conversations.json covering your whole history, delivered by email, sometimes hours later. It is a backup, not a document. Only Deep Research reports have their own download-as-PDF option.

The AI sites change their pages without notice, and that is the usual cause. Email [email protected] with the site, the format and what was missing; page changes are fixed first, usually within a day, and the fix arrives as an automatic update.
